Check Out These New Skincare Weapons – Glycolic Face Washes!

Want clear skin like Jessica Alba? There’s a new way to wash your face that really WILL fight acne!

Staring at celebs who have seemingly flawless complexions can be really daunting when you’re working with acne, blackheads or oily skin. This is when you need to get your hands on the ultimate secret beauty weapon: glycolic face washes! Intrigued? Read on…

So, what exactly what are glycolic washes and how do you use them properly? Dr. Bruce Katz, board-certified dermatologist and Director of the Juva Skin and Laser Center, explains:

“Glycolic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA), which is used to help to make the skin cells less “sticky.” This allows skin to exfoliate more easily, so the act of washing your face with one of these products actually expedites the production of new skin. It’s also a great way to unblock pores, which makes it ideal for people with acne-prone skin or those prone to blackheads or whiteheads. The washes smooth and improve the overall texture of the skin.”

Dr. Katz recommends the products for people who have acne-prone and oily skin, but he does caution that you should be careful if you have sensitive skin or eczema. As always, consult your dermatologist before starting any new skin regimen just to be safe.

Sound good? Check out the products in the gallery below, which includes Dr. Katz’ own Juva Glycolic Cleanser Face and Body Wash. There are all sorts of products (even one for men!) at all price points. Go forth and get glowing, fabulous skin, BFFs!

TRADITIONAL COSMETIC SURGERY GETS A “LIFT” WITH AN UPDATED APPROACH New Procedure Restores The Younger Looking Face

October 12, 2010 (New York, NY) – Adam D. Schaffner, M.D., F.A.C.S., Director of Plastic Surgery at JUVA Skin and Laser Center in Manhattan, is challenging the “one size fits all” approach to the traditional facelift with a new, customizable, minimally-invasive and affordable procedure named JuvaLift™.

We all know how the subtle changes on our face reveal our age. A smile turning to wrinkles, cheeks losing their plumpness, or eyes showing our exhaustion detract from looking vibrant and youthful. Instead of undergoing a typical facelift to merely tighten tissue, Dr. Schaffner’s goal is to reveal his patient’s younger face instead of a newly constructed one. In addition to offering a tailored approach to cosmetic plastic surgery, JuvaLift is performed in the comfort of JUVA’s accredited surgery center without general anesthesia, thereby minimizing risk, recovery time and expense.

While there have been major advances in injectable and laser technology, a “lift” is often necessary to obtain long-lasting results. JuvaLift is ideal for patients who are looking for changes to be made to key areas of their face. The procedure includes lifting tissue, removing excess skin that has sagged and smoothing out wrinkles. In addition, a patient’s own fat is often used to help restore fullness and improve skin quality. Patients have found the results to be transforming.

“At JUVA, our patients come to us for state-of-the-art, specialized procedures in plastic and laser surgery. JuvaLift offers those with very busy lives a safe and affordable approach to reversing some of the signs of aging,” said Dr. Adam Schaffner. “At JUVA, we are constantly perfecting the way our patients look while remaining sensitive to their concerns. This procedure goes a step beyond simply reversing the look of aging by targeting different parts of the face in need of improvement to help to restore a patient’s younger self.

JuvaLift takes one to three hours to perform. Patients should allow ten to fourteen days to recover from this procedure.

So sad! Experts explain how Daryl Hannah is the latest star to suffer from a botched face from too much plastic surgery!

Daryl Hannah, 49 year-old actress of Kill Bill and Steel Magnolias fame, looks a lot different than she did when she burst on to the scene in the 1982 classic sci-fi film, Blade Runner. Hollywoodlife.com consulted with top plastic surgeons who believe Daryl has had not only fillers in her lips and cheeks, but also think she had a nose job!

Many stars opt for plastic surgery as they get older, but sadly, some go too far and surgeons we talked to believe Daryl falls into that category.

“Her face looks much rounder, everything about her face used to be much thinner, cheeks, jaw line, nasal labal lines, everything was much more pronounced,” Dr. Richard Fleming, a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon told us. “In my opinion there’s a lot more fullness and it’s not a natural contour. I have no idea what they did, but there is filler material in there.”

Dr. Adam Schaffner, a New York plastic surgeon, came to the same conclusion: Daryl’s had so much work done, her face is totally changed.

“It appears there has been additional fullness to the mid-face. It could have been with any sort of filler material like juvederm,” he said. He also believes Daryl may have had a nose job and said, “It could be lighting and makeup, but in [the more recent picture] her nose looks different.”

Scientific Evidence Proves SmoothShapes Reduces Appearance of Cellulite

By Kevin A. Wilson, Contributing Editor

SmoothShapes XV attacks cellulite noninvasively by combining mechanical manipulation (vacuum suction and massaging rollers), with laser and light wavelengths (915 nm and 650 nm) in one device. Dr. Kulick explained this patented mechanism of action known as Photomology®; “There are three components to treatment with the SmoothShapes device. First is laser energy:
the 650 nm wavelength transcutaneously promotes the expansion of pores in the cell membrane of adipocytes to increase permeability, whereas the 915 nm wavelength softens the fat under the skin’s surface, so that it is more easily expressed by the cell and more readily removed through the lymphatic system, and thus eliminated from the body. Circulation and inflammation are also improved by the 915 nm wavelength.” “SmoothShapes’ suction component is thought to stretch the fibrous septae that tether the hypodermis to the fascia below and provide a matrix to support the surrounding fatty tissue,” Dr. Kulick continued. “The uneven anatomical arrangement of this lattice is thought to be a major contributor to the appearance of cellulitic dimpling. Roller massage gently promotes the photothermal expression and drainage of lipid material, as well as the mechanical manipulation of the fibrous septae. In theory, SmoothShapes utilizes these three components together to maximize the effect, and results suggest that this theory is sound.” According to Bruce Katz, M.D., medical director of the Juva Skin and Laser Center in New York, N.Y., SmoothShapes represents the first truly effective technology for moderate cellulite. “We see improvement in dimpling and skin seems firmer, as well as smoother. Many of our patients have noted improvement – more than they’ve seen with other technologies. We usually prescribe six to eight treatments, once or twice a week, with maintenance once or twice a year. It’s not a cure for major or type 3 cellulite, but people with moderate type 1 or 2 are very happy with improvement. Clinically, I’m comfortable saying we often see 60% to 70% improvement with SmoothShapes alone.”
